I used this thermometer set for the first time to cook a turkey in the Big Easy oil less Fryer. It was completely unreliable. It partially worked through most of the cooking and when it hit about 154 degrees it switched over to an HHH reading that indicates it is to hot. My turkey ended up way over done, what a waste! Just in case the error had been on my part somehow, I went ahead and tested it out again the next day and sure enough as soon as I turned it on the HHH reading came on again while the unit was only at room temperature. I will be taking this back and try to find another thermometer that works.

I have had these unit for 7 years for the newest and 10 years for the oldest. They haven't changed because they obviously can work great. The range is more like 25 inside but outdoors you can get the 75-100 ft range. Once you learn its quirks it is very reliable. I wish it would beep when it looses signal, but for 30 bucks...I love it. One of my units reads dead on...212 in boiling water. the others are 4 and 6 degrees high 216 & 218 in the boinling water. Don't submerge, just hold in water and don't let them touch the pan. I put a piece of tape with -4 and -6 to remind me when i use for my smoking competitions. I use them for temps in my greenhouse and for cooking roasts and turkeys.....GREAT for the money!

I bought this thermometer for my outdoor smoker. However, if you get the recieving unit too far away form the probe it will not funtion properly. 100' range is an over estimation if you plan on keeping the probe outside, and the reciever inside. I would say maybe a 50' range if you are indoor/outdoor. If you were grilling outdoors and were staying within the 100' range outside, you would probably be okay. Also, if you were using it inside cooking with the stove and kept the reciever indoors as well, the range is acceptable. I do like how there is a digital readout on the probe unit as well, so if you are moving around indoors/outdoors, you can see the temp at either unit(provided it is in range). Temperature accuracy is very good.

RediCheck Remote Cooking Thermometer w/Taste Settings::Description


The Maverick RediCheck Remote features a transmitter that reads the internal food temperature with a digital electronic food probe, then sends that information wirelessly up to 100 feet away, freeing you from standing next to the oven or grill during the cooking period. When the desired temperature is reached an alarm goes off. Place the transmitter near the oven or grill. Insert the tip of the Food Probe into the center of the food being cooked, and run the probe's lead wire out through the door connecting to the transmitter. The wire is flexible metal sheath and is rated for over 500 degrees F., and isn't hurt by closing the door. The receiver picks up the signal, and displays: the actual internal food temperature, the "set" or target desired temperature, and the type of meat. Each meat type has default taste "doneness" choices for each type of taste (rare, medium, etc.) but you can override any preset temperature and choose your own.
